For Seniors:
Senior Chromebook and Charger check-in schedule:
- Thursday, May 15th (8am - 4:00pm) - Technology Office (This is located by the Auditorium steps.)
- Friday, May 16th (during the normal check-out process) - HS Media Center
Purchasing Device: If you are purchasing your Chromebook, you will need to stop during these times with the money and Chromebook. Seniors who have purchased the device protection plan for this year can purchase their device for $50. If you do not have the device protection plan in place, the cost is $75. You will need to bring your Chromebook during this checkout time, so we can remove the device from our management system and return it to a factory reset state. (Once you purchase this device, we recommend logging into this Chromebook with a personal Gmail account, since the first person to login becomes the new owner.)
Returning Device: If you are turning your device back into the school: At these times we will be checking operational conditions of the Chromebook, Stylus and Charger. Units will need to be charged so that we can test the trackpad, power button, and operating system. In addition, we will look at the condition of the screen and chassis for damage. Please update your Chromebook to the current Chrome version.
To streamline this process, we would like any senior who has a known issue with their Chromebook or charger to stop by the Technology Office (located next to the auditorium steps.) as soon as possible to get these issues resolved before the checkout process begins. There will be a $10 charge (in addition to the cost of repair) on any device that is turned in on Thursday, May 15th with visible damage and/or operating issues. Report any issues/damage early to avoid this additional cost.
For all grade 9 through 11 students::
Students Graduating and/or leaving the district: Grade 9, 10 & 11 students who are leaving the district will need to make arrangements with the office prior to checkout to return your Chromebook and charger. Get your repairs done now! You will want to get damages repaired prior to check-in in order to avoid an additional $10 check-in fee if your device has damages.
We will be removing you from the network and removing your Google Apps accounts shortly after school is out. This document should assist you with transferring your Google Documents and files: https://bit.ly/LeaveNorris
Reminder to all students: We will be removing your network accounts over the summer, and adding you back to the network. You will be keeping your same network ID and password, but any files you have on the Z drive will be lost, so we recommend that you make a backup to a flash drive, or into your Google Drive before the start of the summer. (Most students no longer keep files on the Z drive - but some classes still have you save a file to the network drive.)
All student Google Accounts (Other than Sr’s and other students leaving the district) will remain in place each year. You will have access to all Google Apps content 24/7 as long as you remain a Norris student. Remember, all content is accessible by school personnel when deemed necessary. Make sure you practice proper digital citizenship and use this account for school purposes only.
All Grade 9 through 11 students concerning Chromebooks: We will not be checking in Chromebooks over the summer. If you have any equipment issues with your Chromebook, please stop by the Technology Office (located next to the auditorium steps.) as soon as possible to get those repairs done before the end of the school year. (Any screen cracks, screen detachments, plastic cracks/breaks, etc… need to be fixed ASAP.) This will also make sure you have a usable Chromebook for over the summer. (Remember to take good care of your Chromebook, you will be able to purchase these at a discounted price when you graduate.) If you are planning on leaving the district, please check in your Chromebook before leaving.
Since this is a school-issued device, remember that all internet and other device usage will continue to be monitored over the summer and addressed with school administration and parents. Please keep the devices charged over the summer. Letting devices sit with a dead battery will ruin your device.
We encourage you to take out the device protection plan each year! This will save you money with any damages as well as reduce the price of your device should you decide to purchase it. It's well worth the cost!
