Local Media Visit NSD to Learn More About Proposed Bond Issue

Firth, NE — On Friday, February 27, Norris School District welcomed local media representatives for a special Media Day tour of the district’s campus focused on the upcoming bond issue that will appear on the May 12, 2026 ballot. Reporters had the opportunity to walk through the Norris campus buildings, speak with district leadership, and see firsthand the areas most impacted by the proposed improvements.

During the event, district officials shared details about the $34.8 million bond proposal and how it would address aging infrastructure, enhance safety and accessibility, and support long-term facility needs across the district. Topics highlighted included outdated heating and cooling systems, original-era locker rooms and bathrooms, and campus entry points that do not meet modern security standards.

Superintendent Dr. Derrick Joel and other district leaders emphasized the importance of community awareness and transparency as voters prepare to weigh in on this significant investment in Norris students, staff, and families. Media representatives were also shown planned areas of improvement related to building safety, student drop-off and pick-up flow, and ADA accessibility upgrades.

The district values the role of a well-informed community in the bond process and appreciates the chance to answer questions from local news outlets and provide context for the proposal.

District staff will continue outreach efforts in the coming weeks, including informational materials and community forums, to ensure residents have multiple opportunities to learn about the proposal and ask questions prior to the election.
