Inaugural Season for Norris Esports Team

The beginning of the school year marks the start of a variety of activities offered at Norris High School. A new program in its inaugural season is the Norris Esports Team. What is Esports? Simply defined, it’s organized video game competitions between teams and schools, which must adhere to strict rules and guidelines. Esports requires teamwork, communication, critical and strategic thinking, creativity, sportsmanship, and leadership.

Norris will be one of the 73 school districts in the State of Nebraska to compete in our statewide Nebraska School Esports Association. Schools will compete against each other in a variety of games that are specific to each season (fall, winter, spring). During the fall season, 31 Norris Esports players are preparing to compete in Valorant, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Norris Esports athletes will begin fall competitions on the week of September 12th and a schedule will be out as soon as matches are finalized.

A dedicated Esports Gaming Lab has been created with assistance from the Norris Technology Department. This space includes state-of-the-art equipment that players can utilize during practices and competitions throughout the year.

Coaches for the Esports Team are Colton Gronewold, Mark Hausner, and Jason Gault. The three staff members at Norris are excited to be a part of this new program and get to know the students. Look for more news and updates as the season unfolds. And if you are interested in being a part of the Norris Esports Team for the winter and/or spring seasons, feel free to reach out to any of the coaches for more information.
