


Norris Superintendent Attends Washington D.C. Advocacy Conference
Norris Superintendent John Skretta attended the American Association of School Administrators Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C. July 9-12. Dr. Skretta attended as the current President of the Nebraska Association of School Administrators, representing Nebraska public school district superintendents. He was joined by Greg Sjuts, Humphrey Superintendent, NASA President Elect.
Dr. Skretta attended the Nebraska Breakfast and met with members of the Nebraska Congressional delegation and their staffs. The purpose of these meetings was to enlist the support of House and Senate members in key federal education programs, including:
- Perkins Career and Technical education programming, which helps fund Norris’ membership in the Southeast Nebraska Career Academy Program providing college and career preparatory courses for Norris students.
- Title I funding for skills remediation and intensive assistance for qualifying Norris students at our early grade levels.
- Special education expenditure reimbursements. This mandatory federal program is currently reimbursed at less than 50% by the federal government.
- Title IV flexible block grant funding for schools to promote safe and healthy students through a variety of means including school security measures and mental and behavioral health supports.
