Please join us for the Health & Literacy Fair on Saturday, April 10th.  Information below:Family Fun Walk/Run          This day was inspired by our commitment to do what is best for kids and families in the Norris community.  We would like to reach young families as they make the first steps with parenting and support families with resources as the road to learning continues.  We have partnered with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and have made many changes to encourage life long healthy choices. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s mission:To eliminate childhood obesity and to inspire all young people in the United States to develop lifelong, healthy habits.Healthy Schools Program:Increase opportunities for students to exercise and playPut healthy foods and beverages in vending machines and cafeteriasProvide resources for teachers and staff to become healthy role modelsWeb: http://www.healthiergeration.org/Early Childhood, Exercise, Nutrition, Health, Child and Adult OfferingsSaturday, April 10, 2010                The morning has been designed to provide choices of interest for each participant.  We have a Kid Zone area designated for kids to have fun supervised activity as parents listen to speakers in areas located throughout the building.  The format is organized as an opportunity to peruse materials by guest specialists located in the elementary gym and main entrance or head to presenters on seminar rotation offered three times throughout the morning.  The presentation schedule is as follows: 9:45/10:15/10:40Featured Presenters and Locations for the 2010 FairLocated in the Media CenterReading to your children –it’s STILL the best thing you can do!  Dr. Karla Wendelin has many experiences surrounding herself with her love of literature and teaching. She taught elementary school, and was a university professor at University of Texas San Antonio and the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Dr. Wendelin taught courses in reading, language arts, children’s literature, and adolescent literature.  She later became an elementary media specialist.  She has taught workshops and courses in many locations through Doane College and the University of Nebraska –Omaha. She has served as a consultant for the PBS program. “Reading Rainbow” and the author of the Teacher’s guide and math guide for the series.  She resides in a log cabin full of books right here in the Norris district with her husband and dog.Web: http://prairiesunshine.net/logcablib/logcabinlibrarian.htmlSummer Reading Fun! Holly Gifford has been hired to be the Norris Elementary Media Specialist for 2010-2011.  She has made a big impact on the love of reading and will host the summer reading program here this summer. Her family lives in the Norris School District.Located in Pod Two:  College and Financial PlanningChad Otto is a Norris graduate.  He is the assistant vice president in the loan department at First State Bank.
