Norris girls sparkle at State Cheer Championships; take State in Sideline Cheer

26 Titan girls totally sparkled Saturday and represented Norris in two categories in top-notch fashion at the Nebraska State Cheer and Dance Championships sponsored by the Nebraska Coaches Association.Class B Sideline Cheer: Norris Cheer Squad are the 2010 STATE CHAMPIONS!!!  Class B Tumbling Cheer:  2nd place, State Runner-Up.  Omaha Skutt won--barely edging out Norris.  The girls were nevertheless super excited, especially the seniors, for this outstanding accomplishment!  Congratulations to the Titan Cheer Squad.This is an unprecedented level of success for the cheer program.  Never before has the team brought home two state trophies, and, the state champs were also awarded individual medals for their contributions to this pinnacle achievement. Norris Coach Sarah Staples Farmer described the focus and form the girls exhibited in their outstanding performances: "All the girls totally rocked the mat--they were calm, poised, and ready to throw everything they had into their performance."  She singled out her captains for special praise, extolling their leadership: "Tressa TeKolste and Morgan Sawyer were absolutely key in keeping the the girls organized and focused--they are great leaders--they totally stepped up.  All the girls were calm, happy, focused, and super positive.  It was magical."  Retired Norris Athletic Director / Assistant Principal Randy Bates was on hand working the event and echoed the same sentiment.  He gave the girls a heartfelt two thumbs up, declaring "A good day for Norris and nice job to the team!"Coach Staples Farmer expressed her gratitude to the parents and individual team members who made it all possible.  She then extended thanks to her co-coaches/sponsors Jane Hansmeyer and assistant Lori Hunter.  Staples Farmer said the success the girls attained is a result of a cooperative effort involving everyone.  "Each one of our staff helps our cheerleaders feel valued--and that completely transfers to how well they perform.  They are so proud to represent Norris!"   Coach Staples Farmer offered a special debt of gratitude to Coach Phil Severson for cooperating with getting the cheer team into the wrestling room to use the mats; Music department instructors Dr. Evan Lee and Jesse Andre for their help with "flag control"; and HS Admininstrators Greg Hardin, Charlie Hutzler, and Ryan Ruhl for their support.
