Maschmann offered Superintendent position by Norris Board of Education

The Norris Board of Education is pleased to announce that it has offered the position of Superintendent of Schools to Dr. Brian Maschmann. The board intends to discuss and vote on Dr. Maschmann’s contract at the regular March meeting. A copy of the proposed contract will be posted on the district website prior to the meeting.

Board President Patty Bentzinger stated, “We are very excited to announce the selection of Dr. Brian Maschmann as our next Norris School District Superintendent. Dr. Maschmann has been interviewing for this position for the past twelve-years as our Assistant Superintendent. He brings tremendous knowledge and experience to the position. He is passionate about Norris and will ensure continuity for the organization. We are confident he has a vision to continue guiding the organization into the future.”

Board Secretary Craig Gana echoed these same sentiments, “Dr. Maschmann has established roots at Norris and he is an excellent problem-solver. He has the full support of the Norris staff and administration. It simply didn’t make sense to do a costly search when the entire board concluded that we had the best person for the job already in the district who was ready, able, and eager to serve. His selection will bring stability and leadership to guide the district forward.”

“I’m deeply honored to have been selected by the board of education as the next Norris Superintendent of Schools. I have two children who have graduated from Norris and another currently in high school. As a parent and longtime Norris administrator, I love this community and believe in the work that is being done to serve students. I look forward to working alongside the board, staff, students, and parents to find even greater levels of excellence in the years to come,” said Dr. Maschmann.

Dr. Brian Maschmann has served as the Assistant Superintendent of the Norris School District since July 2010. During his tenure, he successfully fulfilled a wide range of responsibilities, including budget, operations, and human resources administration. Prior to 2010, Dr. Maschmann served as the Superintendent in Sutherland Public Schools, where he had also served first as an elementary principal and then later as high school principal before being appointed superintendent. Dr. Maschmann began his career as an elementary teacher in the Bennington Public Schools. In addition to his work with PK-12 public schools, Dr. Maschmann is an adjunct graduate professor for the University of Nebraska Lincoln in the Educational Administration Department.

Dr. Maschmann holds a bachelor’s degree from Chadron State College, a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Doane University, an Education Specialist degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and a Doctoral degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Dr. Maschmann is a certified hearing officer with expertise in conflict resolution and mediation, has worked as a consultant in providing strategic planning and community input for schools, and has presented at various state and national conferences.

Dr. Maschmann is a member of the Nebraska Council of School Administrators (NCSA), the Nebraska Association of School Business Officials (NASBO), and Nebraska Association of Professors of School Leadership. He has served on special purpose ad hoc committees for Lancaster County and is a current member of the select NCSA Legislative Committee focused on education policy matters. A longtime community volunteer, Dr. Maschmann has served for many years as a mentor in the Norris TeamMates program. Dr. Maschmann and his wife, Kim have three children and live in the Firth, NE area. A lifelong Nebraskan, Dr. Maschmann graduated from Fairbury High School, where his father served on the local school board.

“The Board had a great situation in having Dr. Maschmann already on staff,” Board Treasurer Jim Craig said. “Dr. Maschmann will do an excellent job for Norris and the hand-off from Dr. Schwartz to Dr. Maschmann will be a smooth one. Brian will be an excellent superintendent for Norris.”

Dr. Maschmann’s duties as superintendent at Norris will officially commence July 1, 2022. Current Norris Superintendent Dr. John Schwartz is leaving for the same role with Millard Public Schools following Dr. Jim Sutfin’s retirement at the end of June.
