Wind of Change in Favor of Titan Soccer – 3-23-10

Wednesday, March 24, 2010
Spring is just 3 days in and it was typical Nebraska weather- wind gusts in the 20-30 mph category and cold temperatures.  The Norris Lady Titans traveled to Seward to take on the 0-1 Blue Jays, at Bulldog Stadium on the Concordia University campus. In the first half of play, the Titans had the wind at their backs and struggled to connect passes.  "As a team, we struggled with the conditions, wind gusts and a fast playing surface (short turf).  The girls had great ideas, but struggled with the conditions, " stated Coach Myers.  However, in the 26th minute of play, senior Rachel Hansen put the Titan's first goal in the back of the net from a spectacular throw-in by junior defender Julia Krueger.  Just 3 minutes later, freshman Brittany Funk got on the end of another long throw-in by Krueger and scored her first goal of the season. In the second half of play, a change in direction on the field means a change in the wind on the field. So with the wind in their faces and adjustments on the field,  senior Jordan Funk got the scoring going at the 60th minute when Samantha Areman took a corner kick and Funk finished on a volley into goal past Seward's goal keeper Jess Cordle.  The 4th and final goal of the evening was scored by Rachel Hansen in the 67th minute on an endline cross from teammate Sam Areman.  Scoring by Halves:Norris   =        2                  2                 =   4Seward =        0                  0                 =   0In the junior varsity game, the team defeated Seward 5-0, improving their own season recored to 2-0.  The Lady Titans take on Elkhorn, Friday night in Elkhorn.  JV kicks off at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 6:30 p.m.
