Syracuse hosted the Scott Nisely Track and Field Invitational last Friday, April 13th. This meet commemorates Major Nisely, a Syracuse graduate who was killed in action in Iraq on September 30, 2006. He was a track athlete while at Syracuse and went on to compete in track at Doane College. The meet was renamed in 2008 in honor of this athlete. The Lady Titans finished 3rd in a field of 10 competing teams. We also made finals in a couple of the sprint/hurdle events, but then took a 7th or 8th place finish. The same thing happened to several of the field events athletes, they made finals but remained in the 7th or 8th spot. We did quite well in the field events however, Michaela Woodward took a 2nd place finish in the shot with a 38'2" throw and made a personal record in that event. Freshmen Shay Brown continues to do well in the high jump taking home a 1st place finish, while teammate Andrea Jameson finished 3rd. We again had quite a few personal records for the season, so that was a plus for all the athletes that made that accomplishment. At this time of the season we expect that to be happening, and want to see that continue to happen until the season's end.The girls will be competing (JV) at the Plattsmouth Reserve Meet on Monday, April 16th, and the varsity will compete at the Yowell Track Classic on Saturday, April 21, followed by the Beatrice Willis Jones Invitational the following week on Tuesday, April 24.
