Skutt- o 3 =3The lady Titans traveled to Morrison stadium on the Creighton University campus for the 3rd time in 3 years for the Nebraska State Soccer Tournament.  The Titans would face class B returning state champion and 2nd ranked Omaha Skutt in the first round. In the first half of play the Titans came out hard and fast.  Samnatha Areman took some significant shots right off the bat as did teammate Rachel Hansen.  The Titans almost scored on a corner kick in just the first 10 minutes of the match, but were rejected right on the goal line.  "I had a tough angle on the finish, becuase it looked like Rachel Hansen was just walking right into goal with the ball on her thigh, and then all of a sudden the ball got kicked over the goal post." stated coach Myers.  The shots were even at the end of the half  with each team taking 5 shots.  However, the Titans had 2 or 3 corner kick opportunities that they did not capitalize on.In the second half of play the Titans were hanging tough.  "Our goal was to contain Mayme Conroy and Liz Bartels in the midfield and not let them get any easy break aways. " said Myers.  The plan was working, however, in the 48th minute of the match. Liz Bartels took a shot on goal and the ball deflected off a Titan defender where Bartles who was on the ground passed a ball to teammate Mayme Conroy  who was coming into the 6 box.  Conroy was able to finish off that with Titan defenders down in the box and goal keeper Ashley Schroeder out of position. In the 62nd  minute, Conroy was able to turn on the jets and beat the Titan midfield and defensive line and drove into the box by herself for a goal.  "We had a lull after their first goal, and then when Conroy scored her second goal, that took it out of us a bit mentally and physically. You cannot ever have a lull against a team the caliber of Omaha Skutt" Myers said.  The final score of the evening came when Liz Bartels drove into the box and ran into center defender Brittany Cvitak and fell down.  The officials deamed that a foul on Cvitak and Bartels was awarded a penalty kick inwhich she capitalized on this occured with just 6:30 left on the clock. The Titans end their season with a 12-5 record.  They have been ranked 6th in class B by the Lincoln Journal Star as of 5/18/10.  The Titans would like to thank all of those who supported them through out the season.
