Norris Girls Soccer defeat Nebraska City

City:   0   0  =  0The Norris Lady Titan soccer team played Monday, April 23rd in the first round of the EMC tournament as the 8th seed playing 9th seed Nebraska City.  The Titans were set to improve their 3-9 record.In the first half of play, senior defender Morgan Braun lofted a shot from about 35 yards  that got through the hands of Nebraska City goal keeper Kenia Balquier.  Jordan Patt would score the next goal off a cross in front of goal by teammate Brittany Funk.  The Titans were ahead at half 2-0.In the second half of play, the Titans scored at the 47th minute Morgan Braun crossed another beautiful lofted ball into the box that teammate Kayla German finished on.  "This was textbook.  It was exactly what we had talked about at halftime.  It was great to see the girls execute and finish on such a beautiful ball," stated coach Janet Myers.In the 60th minute, junior Brittany Funk scored her 5th goal of the season when she cracked a hard shot from the right side of the 18 box.  In the 76 minute of the game, freshman Cortney Prange advanced the ball up the field and threaded a pass between 2 defenders that teammate and freshman Marissa Metzler got her foot on and score the 5th and final goal of the game.  "This was an overall great team effort.  The girls played more relaxed and in control of the flow of the game.  It was really important that we established the pace of the game and worked on possessing the ball as much as possible," said Coach Myers.The Titans travel to Gretna to take on the number one seed Dragons.  Gretna is currently 10-1 with their only loss coming from Omaha Skutt.  There is a good chance that the Titans will see the Pioneers in the 1st round of Districts, next week starting on Monday, April 30th.  Districts will be played at Lincoln Pius X, 56th and A Streets.
