Norris Girls beat Beatrice 40 – 39
Norris Girls beat Beatrice 40 – 39
Norris hosted Beatrice Tuesday night in a regular season game that matched two top 10 teams against each other. Beatrice was ranked 6th and Norris 7th as of Tuesday and this gave the Lady Titans a little more motivation to win a game against a ranked opponent. In the first quarter Norris took control of the game by outscoring Beatrice 14 – 10 and was able to stretch the lead to 22 – 11 midway through the second quarter. After a Beatrice time out Norris went cold from the field and Beatrice scored eight unanswered points. Norris led at halftime 24 – 21. To start the third quarter both teams turned the ball over and struggled a little bit on offense. Eventually both teams settled in and played fairly even throughout the quarter with Norris still holding a two point advantage going into the final quarter. Norris was able to pull away for a little while but Beatrice would not go away. Norris led 37-32 before Beatrice made a comeback and tied the score at 39 a piece on a three point field goal with less than a minute to go. Norris got the last possession of the game. Bridget Bucher came down with an offensive rebound and got fouled with just under three seconds left in the game. Bucher connected on 1 of 2 of her free throws and Beatrice was unable to get off a final shot. This was a great win for the girls. They had lost three close games to top ranked teams and they were excited to finally win one of the close games. Norris is now 6-3 and will host Waverly on Friday night with the JV game starting at 4:15 and the Varsity game at 6:00.Norris Scoring: Felicia Tekolste 20, Ashley Schroeder 8, Alex Mathers 4, Sam Areman 3, Jessica Taylor 3, Bridget Bucher 2Rebounds: Tekolste 8, Mathers 5, Schroeder 4, Areman 4Steals: Areman 4, Mathers 2, Tekolste 2Assists: Taylor 2, Bryant 2, Tekolste 2, Schroeder 2
