Norris Campus Construction updates for August, 2012

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Tremendous progress has been achieved throughout the summer months on the Norris Intermediate site and construction overall is proceeding ahead of schedule and remains under budget.  The vertical structure is up with nearly 140 precast concrete panels custom manufactured from CoreSlab, delivered one at a time, gingerly craned off, and welded into their tailored spots.  The beautifully cast walls give an imposing and impressive presence to the northwest region of our campus and the building is now readily visible to passers-by.  The next sequence of work is for roofing, exterior framing, and steel set (commons area) to come in.  All of these phases of work are coming online with a goal towards completion of the exterior envelope to provide for unmitigated, uninterrupted winter construction progress on the interior, no matter what raging climatic conditions are outside.

The gymnasium floor will be the first interior concrete pour (the subfloor for what will later have the traditional wood gymnasium floor affixed) and is up this week.  Routine safety testing on all phases of construction to date continues with testing of slabs, steel, etc. being conducted by Benesch Engineering to ensure a safe and secure site for generations of Norris students.

Other steps in the sequence and progress markers moving into September:

Middleton and Shanahan are working on the underground plumbing and electrical, respectively, and have about 50% of it in.  HVAC will be ready to go after the roofing is complete and the geothermal wells are all already dug and ready to be tapped into.  Communication lines – the hub of the district communications network, will be linked from the west Middle School to the new site in the coming days (underground work). The approach from what will be the new bus corral / bus parking area has also come into place.

High School renovation:

The High School west wing will undergo a dramatic transformation in the coming months as work begins on an expansion of the instrumental music, Industrial Technology, and Ag program areas.  Public Notices for Advertisement to Bid on the high school are being published this week and next in local media including The Voice News.  A mandatory pre-bid walkthrough of the HS site for interested subs is scheduled for August 30 at 4 p.m.  The public bid opening will be held September 18 and the Board will host a special meeting to award the HS Bid Package contracts on September 24.  Inquiries may be directed to VP Matt Schendt at Hausmann Construction, 402-438-3230.
