MS Science Bowl Team Competes in State Tournament

Thursday, February 11, 2016

Congratulations to the MS Science Quiz Bowl Teams for their impressive performance at the State Tournament held at Wayne State College on Saturday.

Charlotte Schuerman, Sean Kile, Grace VanCott, and Samantha Palermo were runner-up at the State Tournament, placing 2nd out of 40 teams. They also won the Civility Award for the 2nd year in a row. Also, congratulations to the other team Gracelyn Adams, Evvie Yendra, and Riley Hestermann who did an amazing job.

Science Quiz Bowl competition is fun, fast-paced and intense as the winning team receives an all-expense paid trip to the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C. The questions come in pairs: toss up question by pressing the buzzer when they have the answer. There is no conferring with other teammates and students have 5 seconds to answer each question. If toss up question is correct, students get a chance at a Bonus question. They can consult and have 20 seconds to answer the question. Middle school students are quizzed on a variety of disciplines including earth, physical, life and general science and math.

Middle School Quiz Bowl members meet after school on a weekly basis. They research and review questions and practice the fast-paced scenario of competition. Their moderator is Justy Hagan. Congratulations!!
