Lady Titans Win Big in Season Opener!

The preseason 6th ranked (Lincoln Journal Star)  Lady Titan Girls Soccer team opened their season at Nebraska City on Thursday, March 18th.  The weather could not have been more beautiful at 66 degrees, sunny skys, with a slight southerly breeze.  The venue was perfect with Arbor Lodge sitting gracefully on the hillside above the soccer stadium.Senior Forward Rachel Hansen got the scoring started for the Titans just 3 minutes into the match.  Junior Forward Sam Areman sent a hard ball on the ground that Hansen finished inside the 6 box, past Nebraska City's goal keeper Devin Jones.   Sophomore Taylor Sullivan would score next at 15 minutes with another assist by Sam Areman.   Rachel Hansen would finish out the half with another score at the 32 minute mark.  The Titans outshot Neb. City 20-0 in the first half.In the second half of play Hansen would score two more quick goals.  "Rachel has an instinct to go hard and fast at the keeper.  She is fearless and tonight, she showed that scoring 4 goals," said Coach Myers.  Another highlight from the evening was when junior defender Brittany Cvitak took a corner kick at the 62nd minute, serving a perfect ball inside the 18 box that senior Jordan Funk scored on a header.  "We had a team goal to score on a cross or a header, and this was executed just beautifully!" exclaimed Coach Myers.  With just 3 minutes left in the match, Sam Areman scored on a hard-lofted shot above the 18 box.  Final score was 7-0.  The Titans outshot the Pioneers 19-1 in the 2nd half of play.In the junior varsity match, the Titans defeated the Pioneers 2-0.  Sophomore Luaren Egger scored on a penalty kick just  5 minutes into the match, and sophomore Jessy Mach capped the game with a beautiful shot into goal at the 37th minute.The Titans are scheduled to play Gretna on Saturday, March 20th at 10 and noon, weahter pending.
