Lady Titans win 4-0 in 1st Round EMC Tournament

Tuesday, April 27, 2010
A gorgeous night for soccer and a gorgeous night for a victory.  The lady Titans scored 2 goals in the first 4 minutes of the match to set the tone.Rachel Hansen scored the 1st of 3 goals for the evening from a cross that sophomore Taylor Sullivan floated into the box that Hansen volleyed into goal past Plattsmouth's goal keeper Kayla Porter. Just one minute later, junior Samantha Areman kicked a corner kick that Jordan Funk got her head on that deflected off the keeper that Rachel Hansen finished on.  " I am always stressing to the girls to frame the goal for the very reason that deflections happen in the box especially when you've got someone like Jordan Funk who is a heading specialist that can redirect the ball.  Keepers have a difficult time with that, and it is so important to be there to finish off deflections."  said coach Myers. In the second  half of play, just 9 minutes in, Hansen would get credit for her third goal of the game when she crossed a ball in and it struck a Plattsmouth player so hard that it deflected right into goal.  In soccer, that is called an own goal when a team scores on itself, however, Hansen gets the credit for the shot.  This is Hansen's 24th goal of the season and she currently the leader in scoring in Class B.The final goal of the night came when junior Julia Krueger sent one of her awesome long throw-ins into the 18 yard box that sophomore forward Kayla German was able to pick up inside the 6 box and finish on.  "Kayla was totally in the right place at the right time," exclaimed coach Myers. The Titans are now 10-3 and will take on Gretna in the second round of the EMC tournament on Thursday, at 6:00 p.m. in Gretna.  The last time these two teams met, the Lady Titans came up short 0-1.  They are looking forward to another opportunity to play Gretna.
