Lady Titans Too Much for Blue Devils

Friday, April 9, 2010
In their 4th match in just 7 days, the lady Titans took on the class B 8th ranked Plattsmouth Blue Devils.  The Titans defeated the Blue Devils in a physical battle 3-0.It was probably the most beautiful spring evening of the entire season so far and the Titans came out fired up and ready to play.  "We knew tonight's game was important for us.  Not only because it's the middle of the season, but because Brittany Cvitak, our starting center defender was out with an injury, we'd played 3 games in 6 days.  It would test how much gas we had left in out tanks, and whether some of our younger players would step up tonight.  This game is important for conference tournament seeding as well," said Coach Myers. In the fist half of play, the defense of Plattsmouth proved to be a challenge.  In the 18th minute, junior midfielder Sam Areman drove nearly 50 yards by herself down the field and hit a low hard driven shot just inside the 18 yard box past Plattsmouth's goal keeper Kayla Porter.  In the 39th minute, Areman would loft a beautiful corner kick right in the path of teammate Jordan Funk who finished on a brilliant header into goal.  The Titans were up 2-0 at halftime and outshot the Blue Devils 20-3."Plattsmouth knew which of our players to key on.  They definitely kept Rachel Hansen in check all evening.  They were very physical with her and occupied her defensively.  This opened up opportunities for Sam Areman and Jordan Funk to score and for others to get some great shots off, " Myers said.In the second half of play, the defensive battle continued between the two teams.  However, in the 69th minute, Jordan Funk who had just been kicked in the ankle and was not a full speed, finished off a cross from Areman and put the Titans up 3-0.  Plattsmouth played tough to the end, resulting in 2 yellow cards in the 76th and 77th minute of the match.  One was given to the Titan's own defender Maddie MacDonald and Plattsmouth's Heather Stanley.  No other scoring occurred in the match.  Ashley Schroeder records her 5th shut out of the season. The Titans improve to 6-2, and are ranked this week at 7th by the Journal Star.  They will take on 5-1 Platteview at home on Tuesday, April 13.  JV starts at 4:30 and varsity plays at 6:30 p.m. Come join us!
