Lady Titans Start Season Strong
Despite one of the coldest and wettest winters on record, the Norris Lady Titan Soccer team has had a hot start to the season.
The Varsity currently sits at 3-1, with wins over Seward, Beatrice, and Nebraska City. Their lone loss came to Bennington.
The JV currently sits at 3-0, with wins over Bennington, Beatrice, and Nebraska City.
Seward
The Norris Girls Soccer team defeated Seward 1-0 at Titan Field on a sunny Soccer Saturday. Hanna Schroeder (soph) scored the lone goal of the match. Freshman Gionna Weber played a ball to Schroeder with less than 10 seconds left and Schroeder slotted it past the Keeper as time expired. Overall, the Titans had great performances from Sophomore Grace Dowding, Junior Chanasei Ziemann, Junior Sophie Miller, and Senior Alexi Emerson. Freshman Isabella Kester recorded a clean sheet, victory in her HS debut in Goal. She recorded 3 official saves and made many plays to save the Titan Defense.
Bennington
The Norris Girls Soccer team suffered their first loss of the season to Bennington. The match was extreemly physical and well playd by both sides. Bennington scored first in the 8th minute and led 1-0 at halftime. In the second half, the Titans controlled much of the possession and had numerous opportunities to score. Most notably was a goal that was reversed after the Titans were ruled offside after scoring. The Badgers did add a second goal in the second half to cement their victory at 2-0.
Norris JV 3, Bennington 0. The JV Titans played their first game of the season and came away with a 3-0 victory. The Titans were led by Jaidy Suarez and Taelyn Chambers in the attack. Suarez had two goals, both Penalty Kicks drew from fouls from Chambers' relentless pursit in the final third. Chambers also added a goal of her own. Playing well, defensively were Morgan Boesiger, Elaina Ebbers, and Sydney Jelinek (in goal).
Beatrice
Norris 3, Beatrice 0. The Lady Titans rebounded after Thursdays loss with a win against school rival Beatrice. The Lady Titans dominated possession throughout the game and had to acclimate to wet turf through the first half .Junior Chanasei Ziemann broke through for the games first goal. Ziemann received a pass from Senior Madison Duran at the top of the box and slotted the ball into the back of the net.In the second half, more of the same. Norris dominated possession. There were a few moments where Beatrice did break through Norris' back line, but GK Isabella Kester snuffed any chance they had, out.Molly Ramsey scored two goals, one on a through ball with her and teammate Grace Dowding chasing down the ball into the goal. And the second was an individual goal.
Norris JV 3, Beatrice 0. Scoring for the JV Titans were Sophie Talero, Jaidy Suarez, and Hadley Susie. Game was shortened to a half-game due to injuries.
Nebraska City
Norris 2, Nebraska City 1.The Lady Titans picked up a tough road win against Nebraska City on Monday, March 25th. In the 5th minute, Molly Ramsey sent a ball into the box, where Jenae Tilford finished for the game's first goal. Nebraska City responded in the 15th minute capitalizing on a Titan defensive mistake tying the game at 1 apiece. In the second half, Maddie Duran scored the game-winning goal with about 25 minutes left in the game.
Norris JV 3, Nebraska City 0. The JV Titans defeated Nebraska City 3-0, all goals were scored by Sophie Talero. In addition to Talero's hat trick was outstanding defensive play by Freshmen Olivia Kroese, Maddie Flanders, Sydney Jelinek, and Morgan Boesiger.
