In the quarter-final round of the Eastern Midlands Conference Soccer Tournament, the lady Titans took on the Waverly Vikings.  This would be the second meeting of these two teams in 3 short weeks.Sam Areman scored in the 20th minute from a cross by teammate Alex Mathers. "We've been working on combination play in the middle of the field, and Alex and Sam executed that beautifully to score the first goal of the match.  It really set the tone of the game," said coach Janet Myers. In the second half of play, the state's leading scorer Cierra Tjaden, for Waverly beat the left side defenders for Norris and struck a hard shot just inside the 18 yd. box to tie the match at the 57th minute.  Just five minutes  later, Sam Areman crossed a ball from the left side of the box to Macy Dauber who finished on goal. This was Macy's first goal of the season.  Three minutes later, senior defensive midfielder Alex Mathers scored on a header from a corner kick by teammate Sam Areman.  "These two have really figured out their timing with one another.  When Alex gets her head on those flighted ball she strikes it so hard, it is like a shot.  Many keepers cannot move fast enough to save those headers from Alex," exclaimed Myers. The Final score of the match was 3-1 in favor of the Titans. On Thursday of the same week, the Titans traveled to Gretna to take on the number 2 ranked team in the state.  At that time, Gretna had only lost to number 1 Omaha Skutt, and number 3 Columbus Scotus. The Titans played tough and hung with Gretna through the first half.  The Titans trailed 0-1 at half time.  "I thought we played beautiful and competitive soccer with Gretna for the first 20 minutes of the first half.  We were expending a lot of energy playing defense, but kept them from scoring," stated coach Myers. The first goal was scored at the 14:30 mark when there was shot taken and Titan goal keeper Ashley Schroeder bobbled the ball and Gretna's Jordan Wollenburg cleaned that shot up putting a hard strike to the back of the net.In the second half of play, the Titans could not create any offense.  Gretna would score 3 more times.  Megan Kruse would score 2 of those goals, and the final goal was scored by Madison Paskevic.  "After half, I felt like we had awoken a sleeping giant.  Gretna came out very physical, and pushed hard and we could not containg them.  We were back on our heals.  We were able to only get one shot off on goal the entire 2nd half," Myers said.  "This is definitely a state calliber team.  They are fast, they are physical, and they create shot opportunities everytime they come up the field.  These types of games are really good for us to learn and take away some things for ourselves.  The loss stings, but we'll be better for that in the long run."
