Norris -  0   2  = 2Pius      -   0   0 = 0The Norris lady Titans took the field Thursday night ready to take on class B powerhouse and district rival Lincoln Pius X. In the first half of play, it seemed that Pius was dominating the midfield, outnumbering the Titans.  " We struggled to stay in possession, so I thought about making an adjustment at halftime." said Myers. The Titans held on and kept Pius from scoring with great defense and excellent goal keeping by junior Ashley Schroeder. "I talked to our defenders when they came off at half about making an adjustment, and they were in agreement with my idea." said coach Myers. We came out after half and scored two quick goals.  The first came when junior Alex Mathers got on the end of a throw-in by teammate Julia Krueger and loftet a hard shot past the Pius keeper.  Just 2 minutes and 28 seconds later, junior Sam Areman sent a long ball over the Pius defensive line that Rachel Hansen picked up and drove into the box, the goal keeper came out and lost the ball on Hansen's shot. Hansen took advantage of an open goal and finished off the bobble. The game remained scoreless the remaining 33 minutes of the match.  This is the Titans 2nd B-1 district title in 3 years.  The Titans advance to the State tournament that will take place at Morrison Stadium on the Creighton University campus next week.Titans defeat Beatrice in Semi-FinalsOn Tuesday, in the semi-final game, the Titans defeated Beatrice 2-1 in overtime.  The Titans had to come from behind to get the victory. In the first half of play, Beatrice scored first on shot in the 37th minutes that got through the hands of Titan goal keeper Ashley Schroeder. "It was a strange, it looked like Ashley had the ball secured and then she didn't.  It was windy, and that can be tricky when you are securing a lofted shot," said coach Myers. In the second half, no scoring would occur until the 75th minute of the match when junior midfielder Samantha Areman hit a hard driven shot into the corner of the goal that Beatrice goal keeper Anna Petersen couldn't get to. In the first 10 minute over time, the Titans would score just 1 minute and 9 seconds in when defensive back Julia Krueger threw in a long ball that sophomore Taylor Sullivan headed towards goal and Jordan Funk got on the end of to finish in goal.  Beatrice came close to scoring late in the second overtime half, but Ashley Schroeder made a great save.  "This is what makes Ashley a great keeper.  She uses her skills from other sports to make great saves.  Her basketball skills came in handy on this shot.  The ball looked like it was going to go in the goal, and she stepped on the goal line with her back to the field, grabbed the ball by her hip and flipped it backwards out of the goal.  It was spectacular!  The Beatrice coaches and players thought the ball was in the goal.  The sideline official confirmed that the ball never crossed the goal line.  Fantastic save!," said coach Myers."Tonight was an important win for us.  Beatrice is a fantastic team and they are well coached by Joe Durante.  They are physical, and play with everything that is in them," stated coach Myers.  "We knew if we could get past Beatrice, we could be successful on Thursday night."The Titans will advance to the finals against Lincoln Pius on Thursday after they defeated Lincoln Lutheran 4-2 in the other semi-final game.
