The Norris School District has received confirmation from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office that a 16-year old male Cortland resident and Norris student has been cited for one instance of third degree misdemeanor sexual assault and that the victim is an elementary-aged Norris student. The citation has been referred to Juvenile Services. The alleged incident occurred in Cortland. The incident did not occur at school, on school grounds, in a school vehicle, or as part of a school activity. There is no evidence to indicate anything related to the preceding occurred at Norris. 

The school district has cooperated with the Gage County Sheriff through our Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer. The school district will continue to work cooperatively with authorities in this matter. The school district will follow practical measures to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment for all students, and will institute additional safety precautions the situation warrants.
