Due to the conflict with state semi final football playoffs and potentially volleyball also playing in second round state tourney this Friday, the Norris Foundation annual honors and awards banquet has been rescheduled for Friday, November 16th. You'll want to be sure to cheer our awesome Titans teams on in state competition this Friday and book your calendar to attend the Foundation banquet next Friday.

The Norris Education Foundation will honor annual award recipients for their exceptional, dedicated service to Norris at the annual awards banquet co-sponsored by the Foundation and Alumni Association. Tickets to this limited-capacity event at the Yankee Hill Country Club in Lincoln are just $30 and include social hour, a catered dinner, celebrity after-dinner speech, and the awards presentations. Tickets are available by contacting the school at 402-791-0000 or by emailing in the admin office.

The special Guest Speaker for this year’s banquet is motivational speaker Matt “The Catch” Davison, former Husker football great and current Nebraska sports commentator, who will speak about establishing a legacy of service through his Creating Captains Foundation  “Creating Captains is a statewide program designed to empower student-athletes to live a life of character, both on and off the field. We feel that once youngsters are engaged with positive messages early in their athletic careers, they’re equipped to succeed. Our goal is to instill values and to teach lessons that last a lifetime.”

Winners to be recognized include Judeen Price, Joe Gehr, Ed Woeppel, and Sherry Steele.

Judeen Price (Secondary Family/Consumer Science Teacher)

Judeen has been a dedicated Norris teacher and member of the district community for over three decades, having served multiple generations of Norris families as their introduction to the world of Family and Consumer Sciences, while instilling excellent character traits and sound decision-making values in all her students.

On winning the Hall of Fame distinction, Judeen said, “It is a great honor to be involved with wonderful students, administrators, parents and co-workers at Norris. It is my joy and privilege to be part of the Norris team!  Thank-you to the many who have shown their support of the FCS program.  I am humbled and thankful to be awarded the Alumni Hall of Fame Award because there are so many other outstanding people who could be recognized.”

Joe Gehr (School Resource Officer)

Joe Gehr has been Norris’ dedicated School Resource Officer for 7 years, doing lots of positive, proactive outreach through the Sheriff’s Office and also serving the district in situations both urgent and emergency-oriented.

On his honor, Gehr noted: “This is my 7th year with Norris and I am honored to work with such a professional staff. I continue to work on bridging the gap between law enforcement, students and staff through relationship building, classroom presentations and presence in the buildings. I love being a part of the Norris community and am humbled by receiving this award.”

Ed Woeppel (Norris volunteer and parent)

Ed has served the district as a parent volunteer in countless ways over many years.  His contributions include serving as a charter member of the Farm Committee of the FFA Alumni group which was instrumental in establishing the FFA Learning Lab, an active school-community partnership that channels the revenue from an active 111-acre farm operation into Learn To Dream scholarships for Norris’ students’ post-secondary  dreams.

Ed noted, “I've been very involved in the FFA Booster organization and particularly with the FFA Learning Lab.  We have had a great group of people from throughout the community that have stepped forward to provide an outstanding learning opportunity for students.  I feel very honored to be recognized, however it is clear that when projects such as the Learning Lab are successful, many others are also responsible for that success.”

The Banquet will be held November 16th at the Yankee Hill CC.  Tickets may be reserved by contacting the admin office at 402-791-000 and proceeds go to support the Norris Education Foundation’s mission of supporting Norris students and programs to ensure our graduates are successful at the next level!
