District to host Jan 3rd information meeting on athletic facilities development

Due to the snow day, the information meeting on athletic facilities development for the district has been postponed and is rescheduled for Thursday, January 3rd.  Same time (7 pm) and same location (auditorium).

The purpose of the meeting is to share the Board of Education’s vision for future athletic facilities development as reflected in the master plan for our facilities complex.  Norris is an exemplary school district and strives to provide students with resources to foster their success through positive growth and development.  There is a close correlation between activities involvement and academic success, and over eight out of ten Norris HS students are involved in at least one school-affiliated activity.  Athletics participation is at an all-time high in our growing district.  Norris strives to excel in both areas, encouraging both participation and competitive excellence in athletics and acknowledging the complementary relationship it bears to academic success and a positive school environment.  

Key intentions of the district’s strategic plan for athletic facilities complex:

  • Alleviate crowded areas and conditions for areas that also serve as classroom spaces (weight room).
  • Make data-informed decisions based on comparability analyses of facilities for similar-sized districts.
  • Provide top-notch resources for students by maintaining parity in a competitive conference.
  • Develop facilities in a methodical manner over time that demonstrates a clear prioritization plan and sound fiscal management.


Over the last 18 months, district administration and design partners, guided by the School Board, have examined athletics facilities needs and determined scope, location and a prioritization plan for these areas, including west stadium bleachers (accomplished), fitness center (strength training expansion), artificial turf, baseball diamond, and tennis courts.  The 20th will provide an opportunity for patrons to learn more about this plan.
