Campus construction updates for April, 2013

Wednesday, April 3, 2013

Construction progress continues uninterrupted on the Norris campus, where the new Norris intermediate school funded via the March, 2012 bond issue nears completion stage. The building will house grades
three, four, and five – providing needed and necessary space for the growing Norris student population while alleviating overcrowding in the elementary school. The new building will add over 10 acres to the
developed Norris campus complex and a 65,000 square-foot facility that will be ecologically sustainable and 'green by design' with geothermal heating and cooling, a high degree of HVAC programmability, as well as motion/photosensitive light controls throughout the facility. The high school renovation project on the west side continues to advance with measurable progress shown.

Recent progress includes the laying of carpet throughout the classroom and hallway corridors in the  nterior, as well as the installation of steel paneling providing a decorative structure on the entrance façade throughout the exterior of the facility. The media center has been transformed from a larger, open space into one that will be a hospitable and inviting space for our intermediate readers. Skylights are punched through in the media area, allowing excellent natural daylight to stream into the space. The circulation desk with a decorative front panel has been installed, and bookcases and other furnishings are being ushered in. Design features being finalized in the Intermediate interior include classroom signage and a vinyl mural to be affixed in the multipurpose room on the wall including inspirational words and phrases that are mission – based.

Next steps: Internet is being connected in order to link the new school to the districtwide network. Preparations are underway and installation of the gymnasium floor will begin this week, with completion projected by the third week in April. Kitchen equipment will be installed over the next week, including dishwashers, the oven, steamer, and mixer.

On the exterior of the intermediate, underground sprinkler installation will begin this week, just in time for the warming temps. The landscapers are monitoring the projected temps and keeping an eye on the earliest possible times for seeding, sod installation, and shrubbery and tree work to begin in earnest.

In the high school, overhead piping continues to be completed, and painting and sealing the floors in the renovated shop areas (ag, welding, IT, metals-areas) is set to occur the week of April 15.

Hausmann Construction continues to perform admirably in managing the project budget and timeline and overseeing the phenomenal efforts of our subcontractors on various scopes of the project. The district continues to set its sights on obtaining full occupancy status for the new school during the summer months, well in advance of the start of the school year in mid-August.
