The boys soccer team had a roller coaster week as they earned at win at conference rival Waverly, then came up short against an inspired Crete team.On Tuesday, the Titans traveled to Waverly for their final regular-season Eastern Midlands Conference match. Although the clouds rolled in and a bit of rain fell, the Titans shone brightly during the contest, running away to a 5-0 victory. The team put together a complete game on both offense and defense, with everyone contributing to the win. Goal-scorers for Norris were Jordan Schaefer, LaRoy Cobb (2), Ethan Doeschot, and Kyle Smith. Jake Kuhn provided the shutout win in goal, with some substitute help from David Patt. With the win, the Titans earned the runner-up spot for the EMC regular season, and clinched the number one seed in the conference tournament. On the heels of that dominating win, the boys took their 9-2 record on the road to visit the Crete Cardinals, whom they had defeated twice last season, including a shootout in District play. Crete must have had those losses fresh on their minds, as they worked hard in the midfield on their way to a 1-0 halftime lead. The Titans were up to the challenge, however, with Jordan Schaefer volleying in from close range midway through the second half. Ultimately, it was the Cardinals who would emerge victorious, scoring with ten minutes left in the match witha breakaway run on goal.At 9-3, the Titans look toward the Eastern Midlands Conference tournament this week, beginning play on Tuesday against Nebraska City. Next week is the District tournament for the boys, with an opportunity to play at State on the line.
