Board of Education vacancy application

Notice is hereby given that a vacancy exists on the Board of Education of Norris School District #160 as a result of the death of Patty Bentzinger. In accordance with state law, the Board will begin the process of appointing an individual to complete the remainder of Mrs. Bentzinger’s term on the board. The length of the unexpired term is for the same length of time as Ms. Bentzinger would have served on the Board of Education. Interested Applicants must live in Ward 2 to be appointed for the open seat.

Response To Intervention

RTI stands for Response to Intervention.  Response to Intervention is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs.  The process begins with instruction in the classroom and screening of all children.  Struggling learners are provided interventions at increasing levels of intensity to accelerate their rate of learning.  These services may be provided by a variety of different staff members.  The progress of the students during the intervention is closely monitored to assess the growth and level of performance of the student.  How a student responds to their provided intervention determines the intensity and duration of the intervention.  RTI is used when making decisions in both general education and special education.  This allows for a well-integrated system of instruction guided by the child’s data and needs.

At Norris, the RTI process spans all grade levels.  Classroom teachers monitor students academics and behaviors.  If data or classroom performance indicates the need for an intervention, this starts the RTI process.  If it is decided the student needs an intervention parents will be notified either by permission form or setting up an RTI meeting.  An RTI meeting is a bringing together of staff and parents in order to develop a plan of best fit for the students to make progress and growth.
