The Norris Football Team extended its season with a win over McCook in McCook in the State High School Football Playoffs 1st Round.

The win marks the first playoff win for Norris dating back to 1979 and the win for Norris was also the first, first round loss for McCook in the past 13 year (McCook has qualified for the playoffs 13 straight years)

Norris coaches knew that traveling 4.5 hours to play McCook was going to be a challenge and that McCook is not defeated very often on its home field.  When asked about the game, Coach Jacobson said, "that was one of the most electric and fun high school football environments I have ever been involved with. The number of Norris fans that traveled that great distance was simply amazing.  Our fan support is fantastic!"

Norris took a 10-0 lead with 10:00 left in the second quarter with a 38 yard field goal by Bellinghausen.  The drive and field goal were set up by an onside kick Norris elected to attempt after their first score of the game.

"We need to give Gary Pence 100% of the credit for that on-side kick play...Gary (special teams coordinator) noticed a weakness earlier in the week after reviewing the game films of McCook.  After Norris's first score Gary thought the opportunity was there for the play, so our kids went for it and executed it perfectly with Bellinghausen dribbling the kick off to his left allowing Jakson Reetz to jump on the ball and take possession of the football....That was a huge a game when 5 points decides the outcome, every play, and every point you can manage is huge."

Another great series of plays came when Norris was forced to Punt mid-way through the 4th quarter and Byron Hood was able to down the ball on the McCook 2 yard line.  The next play from scrimmage Jordan Vietz busted throught McCook Offensive line to score a 2 point safety for Norris with a tackle for a loss in the end zone.  The play forced McCook to then kick off again to the Titans giving Norris the short field that set up a James Kruger 42 yard TD run.

Coach Jacobson added, "We could not be happier with our kids effort.  This is a team that has a bunch of football left to play and we can't wait to get started on preparations for Gretna.  This should be a fun, great High School football football game, and our stadium should be packed, loud, and rockin.  Norris Fans,THIS IS GOING TO BE FUN!!!!!!"  Gretna will travel to Norris on Friday where Norris will try to avenge a previous loss to the Dragons.
