8th Titan Football Team Falls Just Short in Final Game

After falling behind in their final game of the season, the Norris 8th grade footbal team nearly came back to capture the win last Tuesday against the Gretna Dragons.  Gretna took an early lead after an on-side opening kickoff, and drove the field for the first score.  Norris responded with touchdowns of their own, but not before Gretna had taken a 26-14 lead at halftime.  Gretna then took the opening kickoff of the second half back for a touchdown, which would be the last time they scored.  The Titans fought back, beginning with Drew Reetz stripping a ball from a Gretna half-back and returning it for a touchdown.  And later, after an interception by Isaiah Pomajzl put the Titans within scoring distance which they later converted.  Keegan Johnson kicked was 100% on PAT's, finishing the season 14 for 16 attempts.  The Titans were stopped on the final possession, with less than two minutes on the clock, after nearly completing a toss-back pass.  Gretna ended the game by knealing out the clock, but the Norris 8th grade kept fighting until time ran out.  Coach Murtaugh was disappointed in the loss, as were the players, but proud of the effort, "We were down three scores at one point during the game, but the guys fought their way back into the game.  They wouldn't give up, and that is the thing about this team that I am most proud of.  They will continue to improve, and I have confidence that they will have even more success in high school."
