Vikings edge Titans in Thriller

The Norris Titans traveled to Waverly this past Friday to take on the Vikings, in the hard-fought battle where the Titans fell 35-28. The Vikings started the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run after a long, multi-play drive. Norris blocked the PAT to make the score 6-0. Next was the Titans turn to control the ball. The offensive drive was was six plays long, ending in a 30-yard touchdown pass from Sophomore Aidan Oerter to Senior Bryce Stai. The point after gave the Titans the 7-6 led. Waverly would respond with a long pass of their own, a 60-yarder that helped the Vikings regain the led, 14-7. After trading defensive stop the Titans found the endzone on another Oerter pass, this time to Junior Cade Argo. The teams were tied at 14. On the following kickoff, Waverly would return the kickoff to the end zone, making a halftime score of Vikings 21, Titans 14. The Vikings would start the second half with a long drive that ended in another Waverly touchdown, they now led 27-14. Later in the 3rd quarter, as Waverly looked to extend their lead, Senior Landon Kennedy made a great play and intercepted the pass in the endzone to end the Waverly drive. The Titan’s special teams would also come up with a big play, forcing a fumble on a punt to get the ball back to the Norris offense. The Titans would make the most out of their 2nd chance, Senior Austin Schultz would find the endzone on a 32-yard run. Norris cut the Viking lead to six. Waverly would answer with a touchdown and a 2-point conversion, making the score 35-21. Norris would respond despite being down by 14 in the 4th. The Titans would lead a drive that ended in a third Oerter touchdown pass. This time to Sophomore Tyler Ruhl. The Norris defense would stop the next Waverly series, to give the Titans offense a chance to win the game. The Titans would drive the ball 60+ yards down to the three-yard line. With seven seconds left, the Titans had two shots to get into the endzone, but failed to convert either attempt. With the lost, the Titans move to 4-4 on the season. The Titans will host the Beatrice Orangemen in the regular season finale, where we will honor our senior football players. Kickoff is set of 7:00 pm on the Norris School District campus.
