Titans stun Cardinals 3-2. Win in a thrilling PK Shootout
The #7/8 Norris Titans defeated the #8/5 Crete Cardinals 3-2 on Thursday at Al Papik Field at Doane College. Regulation and Overtime could not decide the outcome - the Titans won in a Penalty Kick Shootout.
The Titans took a 1-0 lead into halftime after Freshman Keegan Johnson knocked a goal on a rebound from a pass. The Titans extended their lead when Crete had an own-goal situation set up by the relentless pressure of Johnson and Senior Josh Schaefer. The Titans held the 2-0 lead, until Crete scored on a controversial Penalty Kick that was awarded with 18 minutes to go. 6 mintues later, Crete tied things up off of a transition goal. Both teams had multiple opportunities down the stretch in regulation, but could not capitatlize. In the OTs, Norris dominated most of the possession, but could not get a shot in the back of the net.
In the Penalty Shootout, Norris converted 3 out of 5 shots, while Crete converted 2 out of 5 shots. Making PKs for Norris were Tanner Wood, Keegan Johnson, and Grant Lucas. Max Pogreba recorded the win in goal for Norris.
Next game is Tuesday at Titan Stadium against EMC rival, Waverly High School. This will be a Quarterfinal Game in the EMC Conference Tournament. Game starts at 6:00 PM.
