Hot bats not enough, the Norris Titans Varsity succumb to Gretna, 12-10

The Norris Titans Varsity lost a battle of the bats on Wednesday at Frickie, falling short in a 12-10 ballgame against Gretna.

Austin Schultz racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Norris Titans Varsity. He tripled in the sixth inning and singled in the third and seventh innings.

Even though Larsen allowed 10 runs over seven innings he still recorded the victory. He struck out four, walked three and surrendered 13 hits.

Gretna's Grant Brunner, Shemwell and Larsen combined for eight hits and five RBIs.

Koby Spicer took the loss for the Norris Titans Varsity. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings, walked three, struck out one, and allowed four runs.

The top of the third saw the Norris Titans Varsity take an early lead, 2-0. Grant Morrison got things going for the Norris Titans Varsity with a single. A groundout by Gavin Brown then moved Morrison from second to third. Schultz singled, scoring Morrison. The scoreboard lit up again for the Norris Titans Varsity when Ormonde scored on an error.

The game's last lead went to Gretna thanks to a third inning rally that saw 10 runs cross the plate on four doubles and two singles.

After pushing across two runs in the top of the fifth, the Norris Titans Varsity faced just a 10-4 deficit. A two-run error gave the Norris Titans Varsity life. Gretna stopped the rally after Larsen got Morrison to fly out.

Two runs in the top of the sixth helped the Norris Titans Varsity close their deficit to 10-6. An RBI triple by Schultz and an RBI double by Nate Welker triggered the Norris Titans Varsity's comeback. Finally, Larsen got Logan McDonald to to end the threat.

After a quick strike from the Norris Titans Varsity, Gretna responded with two runs in the sixth. Gretna scored on a passed ball and an RBI single by Larsen.

Four runs in the top of the seventh helped the Norris Titans Varsity close their deficit to 12-10. A two-run double by Sayre Burnley, an RBI single by Schultz, and an RBI single by Welker set off the Norris Titans Varsity rally. Larsen ended the game by getting Maison Burnley to ground out.
