Jules Sandoz moved his family to land he homesteaded through the Kincaid
Act. Jules sent Mari,14, and Young Jules, 10, to live by themselves on the Kincaid claim
for about four months. This was to protect his claim. The Sandoz family still
owns and operates this ranch. "The Kinkaid Act, allowing every bona fide
settler six hundred forty acres of free land for a filing fee of fourteen dollars, went
into effect June 28, 1904." from Old Jules, by Mari Sandoz, pg. 268,University
