The Museum of the Fur Trade near Chadron has an interesting variety of artifacts.  Two of our favorites were the beautiful hand crafted bead work of the Native Americans and the extensive gun collection, Pelts were collected by the Sioux and taken to the trading post where the were pressed into shipping bundles.  In exchange the Sioux were given blankets, beads, guns and other items.

Traders used this warehouse to store bundles of furs and trading supplies. A museum which portrays the history of the fur trade is located near this site. This is a reconstruction (on the original foundation)  of a trading post located east of what is now Chadron.  It was owned by James Bordeaux and was used for trading with the Sioux from 1846 to 1872.
