First Quarter Objectives 1. The learner will be able to read and write numbers to 999,999 and identify the value of any digit in that numeral. (Example: The value of the 8 in 48,123 is 8,000.) 2. The learner will round numbers to the nearest 10s and 100s. (Examples: 42 rounds to 40, 25 rounds to 30, 136 rounds to 100, 874 rounds to 900.) 3. The learner will show which of two numbers is greater, less or equal by using appropriate symbols. (Examples: 345 > 256, 444 < 699, 123 = 123) 4. The learner will choose the computational skill needed to solve a 1-step word problem. (Example: George had 16 baseball cards. His grandmother gave him 12 more baseball cards for his birthday. How many baseball cards does George have in all? Students choose to add) 5. The learner will add 3-digit numbers with regrouping. (Example: 456 + 786 = 1242 ) 6. The learner will be able to estimate when adding 2 numbers less than 1,000. (Example: 854 + 347 = The students will round the addends and then add the rounded numbers. 900 + 300 = 1,200) 7. The learner will count any given collection of coins and bills and make an amount using fewest coins. (Example: $.47 = 1 quarter, 2 dimes, and 2 pennies)
