What is SkillsUSA?

SkillsUSA is the only student organization nation-wide that showcases student skills in industrial, technical, and health-care occupations.  SkillsUSA also gives leadership skills to America's future workforce.

SkillsUSA (formerly VICA) was organized in May 1965 at the First Annual Trade and Industrial Youth Conference held in Nashville, Tennessee. By the end of 1966, twenty-six state Trade and Industrial Education associations had joined the National VICA Organization.

Through club activities which are planned, initiated, and conducted by SkillsUSA members, the organization promotes social and leadership skills as well as pride in personal workmanship. The club brings together students who share common interests, ideals, and purposes. SkillsUSA is an integral part of the Trade and Industrial education program. Through the activities of the organization, SkillsUSA members learn about their roles in the school, community, and world of
work. SkillsUSA students serve others and make vital contributions toward improving the quality of life in today's world, and more importantly, in helping to shape tomorrow's world.

SkillsUSA seeks to instill a competitive spirit among its members through participation in state and national skill events. In these programs, students develop personal leadership skills and proficiency in occupational skill achievement.  SkillsUSA gives its members a strong self-image and prepares them for leadership roles in the real world of work.
