Re. Scholarship & Leadership Program

Hello,

As the demand for skilled labor invariably goes up and the availability of skilled workers decreases, we feel it is very important to encourage young people to pursue technical and trade post-secondary education along with acquiring leadership skills. The scholarship program at Norris High School was developed to do just that.

SkillsUSA is a nationally recognized Career and Technical Education student organization designed to aid students in developing technical and leadership skills. Last year five graduating members of the Norris Skills chapter were rewarded scholarships totaling over $1500.

This year our hope is to provide scholarships to students, not only for educational purposes after they graduate, but also provide monetary support for students to attend leadership training at the SkillsUSA Mid America conference held in Columbus, NE, every October.

To be eligible for a scholarship the student must plan on enrolling in a trades or technical program at a two or four year college after graduation and is a member of the Norris SkillsUSA chapter. To receive a stipend to attend the Mid Am conference the student must show a strong desire to improve their leadership skills and exhibit qualities of a good leader. Awarding scholarships is a one-way of rewarding students for their hard work and dedication to the Norris IT program and the SkillsUSA chapter. Please show your support for career and technical training along with leadership development.
