SkillsUSA National Conference 2006
Thirteen students from Norris High School attended the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference held in Kansas City, MO June 19 -23. SkillsUSA is a Career and Technical Student Organization. More than 284,000 student and instructors join SkillsUSA annually, which is organized into more than 14,700 sections and 54 state and territorial associations. At this years conference over 4,800 student members competed in 84 events.
The SkillsUSA Norris Chapter was awarded a bronze medal in the Outstanding Chapter contest. Outstanding Chapter is a notebook or scrapbook contest chronicling local chapter activities from the current school year benefiting student members, the school and the community. The Norris chapter has placed in the top three nationally the past four years. Students that composed the scrapbook and received a bronze medal are Sarah Jenkins, Ashly Lannin, Aleece and Erin Schoenbeck. The Quiz Bowl team of Spencer Hall, Shane Lowe, Evan Egger, Matt Lannin and Alex Baruth received a bronze meal for placing third in that event. In the past two years the team placed ninth nationally. The Opening and Closing Ceremonies team made their first trip ever to nationals placing 4th. Team members include Sarah Jenkins, Ashly Lannin, Aleece Schoenbeck, Morgan Huttes, Josh DeVries, Dallas Shoemaker, and Brian Glenn.
Industry leaders representing over 1,000 businesses, corporations, trade associations, and unions recognized these and other students for their demonstrated excellence in the hands-on occupational and leadership contests at the closing ceremony.

The Quiz Bowl team of Evan Egger, Spencer Hall, Shane Lowe, Matt Lannin and Alex Baruth placed 3rd in nationals.
