This webquest is a modification of one done by Dr. Jonathan Kahl & Kevin Horwitz, their webquest is located at http://www.uwm.edu/~kahl/WebQuests/Time/index.htm.  It would be helpful to visit that site for terms you may not understand.

This will be a three week project:

1.  Download weather spreadsheet click rain cloud

2.  Week one and two gather forecasts from the 8 sources indicated on spreadsheet for high temperatures and low temperatures

     a.  Monday and Tuesday you will get 4 day forecasts, Wednesday 3 day forecast, Thursday 2 day forecast and Friday 1 day.

      b.  Note you may have to use your newspaper, watch the news if you can not get on a computer.

3.  Week 3 find actual high temperatures and low temperatures from the National Weather Service.

 

4.  Calculate the relative differences for each day for each forecast.

5.  Calculate absolute differences each day for each forecast.

 

6.  Determine the averages for each forecast on the day the forecasted and days away.  This will be explained more in class.

 

7.  Based on your results answer the following questions:

    a.  Which forecast is the most reliable over the long run?  Why?

 

   b.  Which forecast(s) over estimate the temperatures?

 

   c.  Which forecast(s) under estimate the temperatures?

 

   d.  Which forecast would be the most reliable if you were just looking at one day away?  Why?

 

  e.  Which forecast are you most likely to use now that you have done this project?  Why?

 

  f.  SNOW, SUN OR RAIN,  Which do you prefer?  Why?
