Basic English

This class is designed for those students who need to learn and practice the basics of what they will need to know to be successful in our world outside of school.  Vocabulary is a huge part of every topic we cover.

We cover topics such as:

* Banking - we work with checking accounts and other types of accounts that are    available.  A large section of our time is spent on writing checks, deposit slips, and balancing their checkbook.  While doing this we discuss bills and companies that you may owe money to and discuss strategies of how to keep track of it all.

* Health - how to read medicine labels, differences between over-the-counter and prescription medicines, what to do if you are sick or injured, how to find the right doctor for you and types of doctors, healthy foods

*Job/Career Skills - we research different types of job and careers, and we fill out job applications.

*Housing - how to find the right place to live, differences between wants and needs, how to furnish and take care of your residence, money

*Writing - filling out forms, writing letters (complaint, thank you, etc..)

*Reading - Newspapers for information and current events, Reading ads for jobs, housing, etc.., store advertisements, manuals
