Outside we drew the outline of
the blue whale on the asphalt parking lot with big, thick chalk.
We even tried to do the fins!
Painter's plastic is used (only 12' wide) and has to be
taped together to cover an entire whale.
Ami making sure there are no holes.
Everyone needs to hold down the plastic, especially in
the wind we were facing!
Brett and Dustin were in charge of getting the fan
ready!
The plastic was bunched up and carried outside.
This was a change from previous years in that we used to roll it up,
then carry it out. The bunching really saved a lot of
holes from appearring.
Students in Mrs. Hegler's class were comparing the
length and other features of the various whales.
Mrs. Hegler developed a new session for this year.
The students made a strip of paper the exact length of different kinds
of whales. The strips were then taped to the wall in the hall to
give students a view of the lengths of these beautiful creatures.
Brittany and Kalli show off their whale artwork!
Getting instructions for the final step!
Mrs. Hegler, Mrs. Burbach, Ms. Rickertson, and Ms. Brown
enjoying the day. (Ms. Rickertson was a student teacher with
Mrs. Hegler & Mr. Bade)
Being inside helped us make sure that the wind was not
going to destroy our creation!
The final project turned out well! The tail didn't
quite inflate fully, but pretty close!
