Tessellations

Tessellations are geometric patterns that fill a space with no gaps or overlaps.  Squares, triangles, hexagons all are shapes that repeat with an entire surface covered.

The seventh graders make their own M.C.Escher art work by taking a hexagon and transforming it into a bird, person, or other object.   How did they get them to fit together so nicely?  Mathematics!   These student pieces are hanging on a wall in my room.
