Due, Do, Dew After all these years of teaching, I finally figured out the problem of why kids weren't succeeding. I thought it was because of the content, or pedagogy, or my background, my training, the lights, the home, etc. Of course, kids always have and always will have a problem getting assignments done. About four years ago, I finally uncovered the secret! It all is centered around the word, "do". When I give an assignment, I tell the students when it is "due", for instance, "this is due on Friday". What the student hears is that they are going to "do" the assignment on Friday, thus there's no real reason to get it done ahead of time. Then there are those students who think we are going to have a "Dew" on Friday! Just a thought ....... |
