Home > Elementary > Resource -Pre-School > Jennifer James Birth to Age 3 Children ages birth to 3 who qualify because of a developmental delay are eligible for services provided by their local school district. These services can include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, and special instruction by an early childhood teacher. When a child qualifies for services, typically only one professional from the school visits the child and family on a regular basis. The professional is determined by the child's individual needs, and this decision is made by parents and school staff. Services are available twelve months a year. If your child is eligible for services, an Individual Family Service Plan will be developed by you and the school staff who are part of your child's early intervention team. The plan will build on your child's strengths and improve areas of weakness. The program will provide support, encouragement, and assistance for you in working with your child. Families whose child qualifies for services are also eligible for services coordination. A services coordinator will meet with you regularly to help you access and coordinate any additional services you may need to support your child. If you feel your child is not developing as he/she should, you can call Educational Services Unit #6 at 1-800-327-0091 to make a referral. A services coordinator will then get in touch with you to discuss your concerns and start the process of determining if your child qualifies for services. |
