Handling Graphics in FrontPage

When you add a graphic to a web page, you can easily modify that graphic to improve download performance and characteristics. To change the size of the graphic, click on the graphic, grab one of the handles and shrink or expand the picture. After changing the size of the picture.... always hit the resample button at the bottom of the window. There are also other useful buttons at the bottom for customizing your picture.

Remember, all pictures on the Internet are either GIF or JPG. As the picture above indicates, If the picture is a JPG, always set the quality to 75% or less and the progressive passes to 8. (This will improve the download times without sacrificing quality.) You can also make your graphic a hot link from this window as well.

Remember....always watch download times! The average user still connects to the Internet with a 28.8 K modem.

A nice feature to use in FrontPage is the AutoThumbnail feature found under the tools section. Once you have a picture selected and AutoThumbnail it, you are given a very small fast loading picture that the user can click on to get the full picture. (This works great for photo albums, etc...)
