MS Gymnasium Floor Being Refurbished, Refinished

Friday, June 9, 2017

The Norris Middle School gymnasium is undergoing a floor renovation following some water damage in the southwest corner of the gym this spring due to a leaking air handling unit duct. The floor had noticably rippled in a small section in this area due to water accumulation. The HVAC problem has been remedied and the floor work is underway.

The floor work includes a design for the lettering on the floor and the center court logo. Wood flooring experts Anderson Ladd of Omaha are completing the floor work. While a section of the floor is being replaced, the entire floor is being stripped, sanded down, restained and refinished.

Other than a minor change order to provide for a contrasting stain color inside the three-point arc, the entire costs incurred by the floor work are covered by Norris insurance. Of the alternate stain, Athletic Director Greg Hardin stated, "It will be a nice touch to the floor, plus we won't get another opportunity to do it for quite some time."

The Middle School gymnasium is not available for use or public access throughout the month due to the floor refurbishing. The company indicates they hope to release the MS Gym back to Norris for regular use beginning July 1.
