Portfolios

The following are suggestions for assignments that may be presented in portfolios.  The possibilities are endless so try to select projects that interest YOU!

Journals
Write a journal about each week's rehearsal evaluating your work, setting goals for improvements, and planning how to achieve those goals.

Performance Reviews
Write an evaluation of a performance you have attended.

Solo or Small Ensemble Performances
Perform a solo or in a small ensemble, and then write a self-evaluation on your performance.

Lessons
Take weekly private lessons.  At the end of each quarter, write about the improvements you have made and your goals for future improvements.

Auditions and Honor Group Participation
Write about your audition or honor group experience.  Be sure to include what you learned during the audition process or by performing with an honor group.

Research or Essay Projects
Possible topics or ideas:
   
Research a specific composer or piece of music
    Research a specific historical period or instrument
    Research a certain genre (type) of music
    Research a specific music career
    Interview a person with a career in music
    What does music mean to me?
    What mood did a particular piece create?


Other Approved Projects
Students may do other projects as long as they are approved by the director.  Some examples of student-designed projects are:
    Magazine or newspaper article review
    Design a concert program
    Write program notes
    Compose or arrange your own composition

   
Create a music video
