6th Grade Music - Mrs. Mitchell and Ms. Wilhelm
Sixth Grade Music is a required class for all 6th grade students. During
the course of the year, students will learn the basics of music notation,
singing skills, music history, and music listening skills.
6th Grade Band - Ms. Wilhelm and Mr. Lee
Sixth grade is the first opportunity for students to play a band
instrument. We encourage all students to at least try the experience of playing
an instrument. The awards are many and lifelong. Sixth grade band students will
have class twice a week.
7th Grade Band - Ms. Wilhelm
The 7th Grade Band meets three times a
week (Mon, Wed, Fri). The students are graded based on a portfolio evaluation in which
playing exercises, written evaluations of individual and group performances, and
classroom activities are included to represent the student's musical growth.
Course study will include major scale studies, rhythmic reading, sight reading
skills, various styles of music, and music appreciation. The
7th grade band will perform two concerts during the year as well as participate
in one music contest.
7th Grade Choir - Ms. Wilhelm
The 7th Grade Choir meets two times a week (Tues, Thurs.)
This class focuses on basic singing, rehearsal and performance skills.
The 7th grade choir will perform two concerts during the year as well as
attending a music contest.
8th Grade Band - Ms. Wilhelm
The 8th Grade Band meets every day. The students are
graded based on a portfolio evaluation in which playing exercises, written
evaluations of individual and group performances, and classroom activities are
included to represent the student's musical growth. Course study will include
major and minor scale studies, rhythmic reading, sight reading skills, various
styles of music, and music appreciation.
The 8th grade band will perform two concerts during the year as well as
participate in one music contest.
8th Grade Choir - Mrs. Mitchell
The 8th Grade Choir meets every day. This
class focuses on basic vocal pedagogy, rehearsal and performance skills and
introduces the students to reading SATB vocal scores. The students are graded
based on a portfolio evaluation in which singing exercises, written journals of
individual and group performance, and classroom activities are included to
represent the student's musical growth. The 8th grade choir will perform two
concerts during the year as well as attending a music contest.
