President Gayle French called the meeting to order. Twelve members were present and they were introduced. Joyce read the minutes and they were approved as read.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Janis Dymacek, treasurer reported a balance of $1067.54 in the checking account and $2869.50 in the savings account. The report was approved.
STAFF REPORT: Evan Lee said band camp was successful, but numbers attending were low. The kids are upbeat and excited about their show. He has a school bus that will be used to carry band equipment and ways to adapt it for that use were discussed. Evan showed the new storage cupboards for instruments and gave the dates for marching performances. The home games are September 13, 27, and October 4. The band contests are October 5, Clarinda, IA; October 12, Plattsmouth (probably); October 19, LPS; and October 26, NSBA. All-State is November 21-23. High School Concert is December 16 and the Middle School Concert is December 17. The grading system in high school band is now the same as middle school and choir. The handbook is on line and all the forms for band are on the school website.
OLD BUSINESS: Please fill out forms indicating when you can help if you have not already done so. Volunteers are still needed to sell calendars and we also need bus sponsors for band contests.
NEW BUSINESS: Sherry Wright and Gail Schmidt offered to check the backpacks for supplies. The Parent-Teacher conference date is October 21 and 28 and we discussed the bake sale and teacher food. Cheryl Brazee will call to get food for the bake sale. It was moved by robin and seconded by Cheryl that we would do the bake sale on the 21st and we’d have Blimpie sandwiches that night for teachers and Sloppy Joes on the 28th. Becky Brunkow will cook the Sloppy Joes and Robin and Janis will donate pop.
We discussed fundraising ideas and it was decided we wouldn’t do a band member fundraiser this year.
Band button pictures will be taken before the first football game. Choir pictures will be taken at school.
It is almost sure we’ll be hosting District Music Contest and it will be April 24 and 25. It would be helpful if people could plan to take that Friday off if possible and be available during the day.
The band banquet date if Friday, November 1st and it will be catered.
The next meeting is September 23 at 7:00pm.
