Gayle French called the meeting to order and all attending introduced themselves. The new officers for this year are Gayle French, President; Chris Obbink, Vice President; Joyce Kubicek, Secretary; Janis Dymacek, Treasurer.
Evan Lee was introduced as the new band director. He reported we have 100 band members and the schedule for this year's band contests. He says things are going well and his goal is to be first in state for Class B and for Norris to be a model of excellence.
Annette Mitchell reported the dates of the musical are September 21, 22, and 23. Senior Bob Kubicek wrote an essay requesting the John Lennon Songwriting Bus visit our school. Norris was chosen as one of four in the nation to have this opportunity. The bus will be here October 15 and 16. Band and choral students will have a chance to learn about music production. October 13 are All-state auditions. October 22 is the High School Vocal Concert at 7:30pm. October 24 is the Peru State College Show Choir festival.
Nine former Norris students are in the UNL band this year.
The treasurer reported $2576.14 in checking. $1500 was transferred to savings, $380 went to expenses, leaving a balance of $1055.44. The savings account has a balance of $3322.42.
OLD BUSINESS: Gayle asked for more volunteers for band events.
NEW BUSINESS: Calendar sales were discussed. Advertisers pay $50 to be included. Volunteers are needed to sell them and a sign-up list was passed around. Calendars are printed by Craig Johnson at Sprint Print.
Sponsors are needed for band trips on September 29 in Columbus, October 6 in Plattsmouth, October 13 at Seacrest, and October 20 at NSBA. To volunteer contact Gayle or Evan.
The bake sale is at the first parent-teacher conference on October 29th. Leftovers will be sold on November 1. Baked items and sales people are needed. Shifts are from 4 to 9pm in hour increments. Sign-up lists were passed around.
We will also need volunteers for the Spring Recital.
Equipment transportation vehicles were discussed as a possible long term goal. This could be a trailer used by band and vocal music.
Photo buttons for choir are taken and the rest will be done on Friday.
Volunteers are needed to sew the flags.
It was suggested that the band wear their theme t-shirts on trips to and from competitions to keep "uniform" and help sponsors find Norris kids.
The next meeting is September 24 at 7:00pm. There is a conflict for the October meeting and it will not be on the 22nd due to the Vocal Music Concert.
The meeting was adjourned.
