National Standards for Music Education
The Music Department at Norris School District uses the National Standards for Music Education as the cornerstone of our curriculum for music instruction in the district. The primary aim of classroom instruction is to increase the students’ skills and knowledge in these areas. These standards are:
1. Singing, alone and with
others, a varied repertoire of music.
2. Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire
of music.
3. Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments.
4. Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines.
5. Reading and notating music.
6. Listening to, analyzing, and describing music.
7. Evaluating music and music performances.
8. Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and
disciplines outside the arts.
9. Understanding music in relation to history and culture.

Congratulations to cast and crew for the fine production of "Beauty and the Beast"! Great production!
Congratulations to the Norris Marching Titans for their performance at the Southwest Iowa Band Jamboree in Clarinda, Iowa on October 4. The band placed 5th overall out of 40 bands and Leah Keralis received the outstanding soloist award of the day! Great job band!
